What is the Nespresso Vertuo?
Gone are the days of going to a barista or a coffee shop to get that cup of steaming, fresh espresso! With Nestle’s Vertuo Line of espresso machines, brew your coffee the way you want it!
The Nespresso Vertuo is Nestle’s newer line of coffee machines that are designed to provide a wider range of espresso and espresso-based drinks, like Lattes, Cappuccinos, mochas, and much more!
What is the difference between Nespresso Original and Vertuo?
So why bother with any of this at all? You want just to have a drink and be done with it, right? Well, not quite. The Nespresso Original and the Nespresso Vertuo have some differences that are worth looking into before deciding which one is the best for you.
Nespresso Vertuo pods vs. Original pods
The Vertuo Line is designed to cater to drinkers who prefer having coffee as well as espresso drinks.
Espresso Vertuo pods (40ml-80ml) are much stronger & aromatic in taste and are made from finely ground coffee beans. Whereas signature coffee Vertuo pods (150ml-250ml) is generally less concentrated, with a milder taste, and is made from larger coffee beans. The Barista creation Vertuo pods (80ml-230ml) are flavourful brews ideal for milk recipes and micro foaming. Craft brew Vertuo pods (535ml) unlock artisan brewing aromas with intense flavours.
That being said, the Nespresso Original line is perfect if you prefer drinking espressos or espresso-based drinks, like Lattes, Americanos, Ristrettos.
Nespresso extraction system
The Vertuo Line is designed to make larger servings and uses dome-shaped capsules. It utilizes an innovative Nespresso Centrifusion system that spins at 7000 rotations per minute to deliver a delicious cup of coffee.
The Nespresso Original Line uses traditional cup-shaped capsules, with water forced in at 19 bars of pressure to create an authentic tasting cup of espresso.
Nespresso Vertuo vs. Original pod size
The Vertuo Line caters to drinkers who like a more diverse variety in coffee and prefer larger servings. These servings range from 40ml espresso brews to 535ml for craft brews.
The Nespresso Original line is designed to make single servings of espresso coffee, in 3 serving sizes. These serving sizes range from 25ml ristretto to 110ml lungo brews.
Can you use normal Nespresso pods in Vertuo?
Sadly, the answer is no. The original machines use traditional cup capsules, while the Vertuo Line uses special dome capsules.
The capsules used in the VertuoLineTM have special barcodes written on individual capsules, which the machine reads. This minimizes user interaction and lets the machine adjust the proportions and settings to create the perfect drink.
But that’s not a cause for worry, as the capsules come in a huge variety of different flavors and strengths, so we’re sure you’ll find something to your liking!
How do you descale a Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine?
Each Nespresso Vertuo device comes with an easy-to-read user manual, with detailed instructions regarding descaling. The official Nespresso website also provides a step-by-step guide for every machine, which you can find here.
Users can buy additional descaling kits from the Nespresso website as well. It is suggested to use these instead of the many home remedies offered on the net, as these may harm your machine.
How often should you run a clean cycle on Nespresso Vertuo?
The official Nespresso website states that users should run descale every 6 months, or after every 600 coffees. However, some users suggest descaling every 3 months, or after 300 coffees, to retain the taste of your drink.
However, to maintain the authentic taste of the coffee, it is advised to externally clean the machine daily and wipe any stains or residue.
The tank should also be cleaned and washed every day, and be protected from dust and dirt by ensuring that the tank lid is properly fitted.
The drip tray and capsule container should be cleaned every 2-3 days, and properly dried before being placed back into the apparatus.
